SC Volcanoes Complete Historic Unbeaten Season With Western Regional League Title

SC Volcanoes have etched their name into Kisoro football history after being crowned Western Regional League champions following a dominant 5-0 victory over Kihihi Young Boys FC in the final game of the season.

The Mutolere-based club completed the campaign unbeaten, finishing with 52 points and an impressive 45-goal difference to cap off one of the most dominant seasons in the region’s recent football history.

Led by captain Mandela Alex, who scored a sensational hat trick, Volcanoes produced a commanding performance in front of jubilant home supporters who turned up in large numbers to witness the club’s crowning moment.

SC Volcanoes entered the match determined to finish the season strongly and immediately imposed themselves on the contest through aggressive attacking football and disciplined midfield control.

The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when Mandela Alex converted from a well-delivered Muheirwe set piece to hand the hosts an early lead.

Volcanoes continued pressing forward and doubled the advantage in the 24th minute through Muheirwe Devis, popularly known as Ronaldo, whose composed finish gave the home side complete control of the encounter.

Kihihi Young Boys struggled to contain the attacking intensity of the champions as Volcanoes dominated possession and created repeated chances from both open play and set-piece situations.

Mandela Alex struck twice more before halftime to complete his hat trick and send the stadium into celebration as the hosts headed into the break leading 4-0.

After the restart, Kihihi Young Boys attempted to improve their attacking approach and enjoyed more possession, but Volcanoes remained compact defensively and dangerous on the counterattack.

The visitors created several opportunities through midfield combinations and corner situations but failed to break through the disciplined Volcanoes backline.

Rukyamuzi Julius completed the emphatic victory in the 89th minute, scoring the fifth goal of the afternoon and taking his season tally to 18 goals.

The final whistle confirmed SC Volcanoes as official Western Regional League champions while Kihihi Young Boys were relegated after finishing 10th on the table.

Speaking after the victory, head coach Patrick Ochan said the club has now shifted its focus to the upcoming FUFA Big League playoffs.

Ochan stated that the technical team is awaiting official confirmation of playoff dates from FUFA but emphasized that the squad is fully prepared for the next stage.

He added that despite the successful campaign, the team will continue improving its attacking efficiency and tactical organization ahead of the expected playoff encounter against Booma FC, champions of the Kitara Regional League.

The former Uganda Cranes midfielder praised his players for maintaining discipline and consistency throughout the season, highlighting the achievement of conceding only three goals during the entire campaign.

SC Volcanoes Vice President Flight Captain Arthur Mugisha Rucakatsi described the title as a major milestone in the club’s long-term ambition of climbing into Uganda’s top football divisions.

He applauded the technical team and players for their dedication and revealed plans to establish a women’s football team and a football academy as part of the club’s broader development agenda.

Rucakatsi also highlighted ongoing empowerment initiatives aimed at equipping players with practical life skills beyond football.

Team captain Mandela Alex said the players remain committed to helping the club reach the FUFA Big League, while also crediting club management for providing financial and motivational support throughout the season.

Kisoro District LC5 Chairperson Richard Ndyana congratulated SC Volcanoes for uplifting the image of the district through sport and pledged continued support as the club prepares for the next level of competition.

The championship celebrations attracted FUFA Western Region officials, district leaders, the Resident District Commissioner, Kisoro Municipality authorities, and hundreds of football fans who joined in celebrating the club’s historic achievement.
