KASANGATI — Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a two-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, following a Shs10 million ransom demand.
The victim, identified as Kyomuhando Dartiva Rosaries, had reportedly gone missing while playing with neighbouring children, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
The child’s mother, Atukwatse Lillian, reported her disappearance to Kasangati Police Division on Tuesday.
Owoyesigyire said preliminary investigations established that a ransom note demanding Shs10 million was discovered at the mother’s gate on the morning of October 28, 2026.
Police subsequently arrested two suspects, identified as Muhumuza Joshua, a pedicurist, and Amusuguti Florence, over their alleged connection to the incident.
According to Owoyesigyire, Muhumuza reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, where the child’s body was recovered.
He also allegedly identified Amusuguti as his accomplice, leading to her arrest.
During a search, police recovered a mobile phone from Muhumuza containing a telephone line allegedly used to demand the ransom.
Investigators further established that Muhumuza was known to both the child and her mother. He had previously worked for the mother as a pedicurist, and his residence was separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall.
The child’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death were ongoing, adding that further information would be released as it becomes available.
The two suspects remain under investigation, and the allegations against them have not yet been determined by a court.
