KOBOKO — One person has been killed and three others wounded in clashes involving suspected rebel groups in Morobo County, South Sudan, near the Uganda border.
The clashes began at about 9am on Thursday in Central Equatoria State, according to Koboko Deputy Resident District Commissioner Hajji Marijani Wailaire.
Wailaire said three people sustained gunshot wounds during the fighting. Some of the injured crossed into Uganda and were evacuated by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to Koboko Hospital for treatment.
Local authorities have advised residents against crossing into South Sudan, warning that the security situation in the border region remains fragile.
Morobo County shares a border with Uganda’s Koboko District and has experienced recurring violence involving armed groups. The latest incident has renewed concerns about the safety of civilians and the risk of insecurity affecting communities along the border.
Ugandan security agencies are monitoring developments in the area.
By Thursday evening, the identities of the deceased and injured had not been established, and the specific groups involved in the clashes remained unconfirmed.
