The MP for Kira Municipality Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has said that what DP president Nobert Mao and President Museveni signed was just an appointment letter.
It should be recalled that the two in July signed what they termed as a working agreement between them (DP and NRM).
Consequently, Mao was appointed as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
He went ahead to reveal how the two parties were going to work on a peaceful transition of power from Museveni to Uganda’s next leader.
Two months down the lane and Museveni during a recent interview said that transition of power was never discussed between them and its just Mao’s assumption.
While appearing on NBS TV’s Frontline program, Nganda said that the agreement lacked content.
And in reality it was just signed by President Museveni alone and not Mao.
“There is nothing in that agreement in terms of content and the one who signed it, President Museveni.
To me, the agreement between Mao and Museveni was just an appointment letter.”
However, Mao who was on the same show defended himself.
He said that the agreement was not only about transition.
It was interpreted that way because Uganda lacks serious analysts and has only jokers.
This document signed between the the party leaders had other constitutional reforms and national reconciliation.
“The agreement wasn’t only about the transition. We are unfortunate as a country that we lack serious analysts, and we only have bloggers and deejays pretending to be analysts.
The document was also, among other things, about national reconciliation and constitutional reforms,” said Mao.
Many political analysts however believe that Mao was hoodwinked into a partnership minus knowing the canny nature of President Museveni.
Some prominent politicians such as Miria Matembe, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu who have worked with Museveni before all contend that the DP leader was duped and this partnership won’t yield anything.
