Minister Agnes Nandutu Nandutu blasts NUP’s gesture of taking food relief to Karamoja

The Minister of State for Karamoja subregion Hon Agnes Nandutu has come out to blast the National Unity Platform’s recent gesture of food relief to the hunger hit Karamoja region.

It should be recalled that NUP was among those that helped in availing food aid to Karamoja last month. The Kamwokya based political party supplied beans and posho. These however allegedly met stiff resistance from security forces in dispatching them.

According to Nandutu the party only did this to court public sympathy but it wasn’t a genuine cause. Further, she said that the government does its work systematically.

Therefore by the time NUP delivered food in Karamoja, it was no longer necessary. She further blasted the Bobi Wine led party that it can’t do even 0.00% of what government has done in the area.

“NUP taking food to Karamoja is just for cheap popularity. The government does things systematically. By the time NUP sent food, there was already food in Karamoja. NUP can’t even do 0.00% of what we did in Karamoja,” said Hon Nandutu.

The Minister who doubles as the MP for Bududa district added that contrary to what the media has been portraying, most deaths in the area have been caused by rustlers and diseases. Its not just hunger as the situation has been exaggerated by media.

This irked social media users as the statistics have showed that thousands of people have fallen to this great famine.

“Some people are killed by diseases, and others by cattle rustling. A few have been taken by the famine but not in the exaggerated way the media portrays it,” she added.

Furthermore, Hon Nandutu said that there is no longer famine in the area as all families have sufficient food which was delivered by the government.

She also added that government is trying all it can to solve the hunger crisis by doing away with the rustlers who make people fear to go to gardens.
