Equity Bank Uganda explores strategic healthcare partnership with Microhaem

Equity Bank Uganda has engaged Microhaem Scientifics on opportunities for strategic collaboration aimed at supporting healthcare innovation and strengthening Uganda’s local manufacturing capacity.

The engagement followed a visit by Equity Bank Uganda’s Board Committee to Microhaem, where the two organisations explored areas of potential partnership within the healthcare and diagnostics sector.

Microhaem Scientifics is a Ugandan manufacturer of in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) products, with a focus on developing locally manufactured solutions for healthcare needs.

The visit provided an opportunity for Equity Bank representatives to gain insight into Microhaem’s operations, innovation agenda and manufacturing capabilities, while discussing how strategic partnerships could support the company’s continued growth.

The engagement comes at a time when Uganda is seeking to strengthen local manufacturing of healthcare products and reduce dependence on imported medical commodities.

For Microhaem, increased local production of diagnostic products has the potential to contribute to greater resilience in the health supply chain while creating opportunities for technology development, skills transfer and employment.

The discussions also highlight the growing role of financial institutions in supporting businesses operating in strategic sectors such as healthcare manufacturing, where access to appropriate financing and partnerships can help companies expand production, acquire technology and reach wider markets.

Microhaem has been developing its capacity in the production of in-vitro diagnostics, positioning the company to contribute to Uganda’s ambitions for increased domestic production of essential health products.

The potential collaboration between Equity Bank Uganda and Microhaem therefore represents an intersection between financial services, healthcare innovation and industrial development.

As discussions continue, the partnership could provide opportunities to strengthen Microhaem’s capacity while supporting the broader development of Uganda’s healthcare manufacturing ecosystem.

The engagement further underscores the importance of partnerships between local enterprises, financial institutions and other stakeholders in building sustainable industries capable of meeting domestic demand and serving wider African markets.
