13 MPs from the NRM have expressed interest in running for the Speaker of Parliament job.
This position that was occupied by Hon Jacob Oulanyah is now empty after he passed away a few days ago in Seattle US where he had been hospitalized for over a month.
The names have been confirmed by the NRM’S electoral commission chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi. Among some of the renowned names is the current Deputy Speaker Hon Anita Among, the Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, Sembabule rebel MP Hon Theodore Ssekikubo among others.
However, the Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng who is the woman MP for Lira City has withdrawn from running for the race.
She says that as much as it is her constitutional right to run for the job, she didn’t have enough time to consult with the NRM CEC before declaring her bid.
Meanwhile the burial arrangements for the late Speaker are ongoing.
Burahya County MP Hon Margaret Muhanga through her Twitter page expressed her disappointment on how MPs are scramblimg to replace the late Oulanyah.
She adds that she now hates death more than ever because this scenario has only showed how hypocritical people are because they could have waited and done the whole process in calmness despite the mandate of the constitution.
