Ministry of Health seeking support to manage Covid vaccination exercise

The numbers of Ugandans flocking Kololo Independence Grounds for the Covid-19 mass vaccination exercise have more than doubled in just a day. This has forced the medical staff to ask for re-enforcement from Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) and other institutions in a bid to manage the exercise on time.  The Ministry of Health is however committed to vaccinating all those who turn up.

The mass Covid-19 vaccination exercise has entered day two at Kololo Independence Grounds, with the number of Ugandans seeking vaccination doubling.

Daniel Kyabayinze, the principal epidemiologist in the ministry of health says the high turnout gives hope that the ministry will be able to vaccinate the entire population.

As of Tuesday 1st June, over 700,000 people had been vaccinated countrywide. But the overwhelming numbers have forced Medics at Kololo to call for re-enforcement.

But as many overwhelmed vaccination centres, it was business as usual in the central business district where there was less observance to Covid-19 SOPs.

Some members of the public, especially in tax parks, are asking Police not to arrest passengers.
