Deo Akiiki replaced with Kakurungu as UPDF deputy spokesperson

Colonel Deo Akiiki has been replaced with Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Kakurungu as the new Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson – Let Out News has learnt.

The announcement which was made on Sunday morning as one of the changes President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the Commander in Chief of the armed forces made immediately after swearing-in for his fourth term.

Ronald Kakurungu has recently served as spokesperson for the fourth UPDF division in Gulu and the second division in Mbarara. He is expected to fit in the shoes of Akiiki who has reportedly been sent for further training as per his tweet on Sunday Morning.

“I thank the UPDF Leadership for nominating me to go and further my studies and military career at the Senior Command and Staff College.”

“Karibu Ndugu Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu to take charge of the office of the Deputy spokesperson of the ministry and UPDF. Alluta Continua.”

Colonel Deo Akiiki has been the deputy army spokesperson since March 2017 when he was appointed to that position.

Deo Akiiki was at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel a few months back and was among the UPDF officers promoted by President Museveni in March.
