Former Lubaga RCC Anderson Burora remanded to Luzira Prison

Herbert Anderson Burora, a former Rubaga Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), has been placed under additional remand at Luzira Prison until Friday, July 12, 2024.

He appeared in Buganda Road Magistrates Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Ronald Kayizi, defending himself against accusations of using hate speech and spreading false information about Speaker of the House Anita Among others.

The stuff that was posted on his social media account X (previously Twitter) between March and June of 2024 is the subject of these accusations.

About a week ago, Burora made his initial appearance in Buganda Road Court to answer to similar accusations, to which he entered a not guilty plea.

David Kamukama, the head of his defense team, denied the allegations as well, charging the prosecution with neglecting to present precise and convincing evidence against their client.

They claimed it contains sufficient details to enable the accused to comprehend the charges, which is why he entered a plea without hesitation.

The prosecution further argued that Burora’s X account, as mentioned in the charge sheet, should be considered a document by the court.

“Section 8 subsection A and B of the Electronic Transactions Act; that section defines a document to include an electronic transaction, and the same thing applies to the X handle.”
