Fallen Speaker of Parliament Hon Jacob Oulanyah is mourned by the Opposition

The Opposition in Uganda have joined in solidarity to mourn the passing of Hon Jacob Oulanyah.

Oulanyah whose death was announced yesterday by President Museveni despite being from the ruling NRM commaded huge respect from the Opposition.

These spoke highly of him especially his sense of humor and tolerance. The Opposition had also shown their best wishes to his recovery a few days ago and they have done the same in paying tribute.

The likes of Dr Kiiza Besigye, Bobi Wine, Mathias Mpuuga, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda have all paid their respects to Oulanyah.

Bobi Wine took to his Twitter page to send in his condolences to Oulanyah’s family.

Former Forum for Democratic Change leader Dr Kiiza Besigye also did the same.

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Mathias Mpuuga also sent his condolences to the deceased’s family through his Twitter page.

Kiira Municipality MP Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that “Jacob Oulanyah was a great speaker and a colourful person. This parliament will miss him. He knew how to handle bills. I disagreed with his politics, but I felt safe in his hands-on matters of the law.”

Meanwhile the day of the burial of the Speaker is slated to be a public holiday according to the laws as stipulated in the Parliamentary Pensions Act. Section 16 of Part D of the Parliamentary Pensions Act

 “A public holiday shall be declared on the day of burial, in accordance with the Public Holidays Act.”
