It seems like there won’t be any more voting for the President by the general population in Uganda after the latest revelations by the NRM.
NRM MP Felix Odupa while appearing on the Morning Breeze on NBS TV revealed that the party has already received a go ahead from the Electoral Commission to collect signatures.
These will be used to ammend the Constitution so that it’s only MPs who vote for the President and not the masses.
Odupa also said that this will be done once the mourning of Hon Jacob Oulanyah is concluded.
He further said that the Constitution has a number of loopholes which they want to fill as the NRM.
“After mourning our brother Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, we shall embark on collecting signatures to see that the President is voted through the Parliament. The Electoral Commission has already given us the go-ahead.
This country needs a lot of things. We see a lot of problems with the current Constitution. These are just proposals,” Hon Odupa said
This proposal was brought a number of months ago in the public domain. The NRM however kept dodging it and calling it baseless rumors.
Even the party’s chairman President Museveni came out and trashed it saying nobody would ever deprive Ugandans of their right to vote.
This won’t be the first time the NRM is ripping the Constitution apart to favor its agendas.
