TIMELINE: The Political Journey of Former MP Stella Isodo Apolot

The late Stella Isodo Apolot will be remembered as a resilient politician and a committed public servant whose political career was closely tied to the growth of Ngora District and the wider Teso sub-region.

Early Political Engagement

Stella Isodo Apolot rose through grassroots politics in Teso, building her profile as a community mobiliser and advocate for women and social development. Her early engagement focused on local leadership structures and political organising within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party.

2011: Entry into Parliament

In 2011, following the creation of Ngora District, Apolot was elected the first Woman Member of Parliament for Ngora, marking a historic milestone for the district. Her victory positioned her as a pioneer leader tasked with representing a newly formed administrative unit in the national legislature.

2011–2016: Parliamentary Service

During her term in the 9th Parliament, Apolot served on parliamentary committees and actively participated in debates touching on:

  • Social services and community development

  • Women’s rights and empowerment

  • Governance and accountability

Colleagues described her as vocal, principled, and deeply connected to her constituents.

2016: Electoral Defeat

In the 2016 general elections, Apolot lost her parliamentary seat. Despite the setback, she remained politically active, continuing to engage in party work and community mobilisation within Ngora and the wider Teso region.

Post-Parliamentary Life

After Parliament, Apolot remained a visible political figure, often contributing to public discourse and mentoring younger political actors, especially women aspiring for leadership.

Final Chapter

Stella Isodo Apolot passed away in January 2026 after a period of illness, drawing national attention and bipartisan tributes that reflected the respect she commanded across Uganda’s political spectrum.

Her political journey remains a reference point for women leaders emerging from newly created districts and grassroots political movements.
