Residents of Kawuku and surrounding communities in Wakiso District have received free medical services following a mega health camp organised by the Rotary Club of Garuga Marina in partnership with Our Lady of Consolata Kisubi Hospital.
The medical camp was held on Friday, September 4, at St. Charles Lwanga Kawuku Primary School, bringing together doctors, nurses and other health workers to provide screening, treatment and health education.
Residents accessed free consultations and treatment for common illnesses, blood pressure checks, electrocardiograms (ECGs), dental and eye services, as well as cervical cancer screening.
The medical team also screened residents for malaria, typhoid, syphilis, sickle cell disease, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and hepatitis B.
HIV/AIDS counselling, mental health services, pharmacy services and mosquito nets were also provided during the outreach.
Dr Nathan Nshakira, Vice President of the Rotary Club of Garuga Marina, said the initiative reflects the club’s commitment to taking essential services closer to communities.
“This camp reflects exactly what our club was chartered to do—create lasting impact through service that reaches real people where they are,” Nshakira said.
He said working with Kisubi Hospital had enabled the club to reach residents with healthcare services within their community.
“Partnering with Kisubi Hospital allowed us to bring meaningful healthcare access directly to the Garuga and Kawuku community, and we look forward to building on this partnership,” he said.
The medical camp was supported by pharmaceutical and healthcare partners, including Salutem Healthcare, Biotech Medical Supplies, Lincoln Pharmaceuticals, Royal Pharma, Glenmark, CAPSCI, Macleods, Chem-Labs Healthcare, Mukinza Industries, Ajanta Pharma, Acculife Pharma, OncoPharm Speciality Pharmacy, Top Medical Store, SRK Medical Devices and Crown Beverages.
The Rotaract Club of Nakasero also supported the initiative.
New Rotary club steps up community outreach
The outreach is among the first major community initiatives by the Rotary Club of Garuga Marina, which was chartered on June 3, 2026.
The club operates under Rotary International District 9214, which covers Uganda and Tanzania, and was formed with support from the Rotary Club of Garuga and Rotary Club of Muyenga Tankhill.
Its programmes focus on health, education and community development in Garuga, Pearl Marina Estates and surrounding communities.
The club recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pearl Marina Estates Limited to strengthen cooperation on initiatives benefiting residents within the estate and surrounding areas.
The club is expected to hold its Charter Night on November 24, 2026, with the President of Rotary International expected to grace the occasion.
The Kawuku medical camp was also the fifth mega medical camp organised by Our Lady of Consolata Kisubi Hospital as part of its community health outreach programme.
The hospital provides clinical services alongside initiatives aimed at improving access to preventive and primary healthcare in communities around Wakiso District.
The Rotary Club of Garuga Marina said it intends to continue building partnerships that address health and other community needs.
