Uganda Cranes Morocco Friendlies Called Off Following Ebola-Related Travel Concerns

Uganda Cranes planned international friendly matches in Morocco have been cancelled following growing concerns linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak and related travel restrictions affecting movement in and out of Uganda.

According to The Touchline Sports, the decision affects the national team’s scheduled fixtures in Marrakech, which were part of preparations for upcoming international assignments and regional competitions.

The cancellation comes amid heightened global caution, with several international travel advisories and restrictions impacting passengers who have recently travelled through Entebbe International Airport. The measures have created logistical complications for teams, officials, and airlines, making international sporting travel increasingly difficult.

In recent days, global airlines have also adjusted operations linked to Uganda’s travel routes due to precautionary health measures, further complicating coordination for international fixtures.

The Uganda Cranes had been expected to use the Morocco friendlies as part of their build-up to future competitions, offering head coach Paul Put an opportunity to assess squad depth and test tactical systems ahead of competitive matches.

The cancellation is a setback for the national team’s technical preparation plans, particularly at a time when the Cranes are working to build cohesion among locally based and foreign-based players.

Football administrators are now expected to explore alternative arrangements, including the possibility of rescheduling fixtures or organising replacement friendly matches within a more accessible regional setting, depending on the evolving public health situation.

The Touchline Sports reports that no official replacement schedule has yet been confirmed, leaving uncertainty over the Cranes’ immediate international preparation calendar.

The development highlights the growing intersection between global health security concerns and international sport, where travel disruptions increasingly influence fixture planning and team preparations.

Uganda’s football authorities are expected to provide further guidance in the coming days as they reassess the national team’s preparation roadmap.

As things stand, the Cranes will now shift focus to domestic training programs while awaiting clarity on future international engagements.
