Ugandan Singer Eddy Artens Gains Attention After Breakthrough Single Nze Naawe

Ugandan recording artist Eddy Artens is emerging as one of the country’s promising new music talents following the success of his 2025 single Nze Naawe, a song that has helped raise his profile beyond his established fan base.
Born Jjingo Edward, the 25-year-old singer entered the music industry in 2021 and has spent the past several years building his career through a series of independent releases. While Uganda’s music scene is dominated by established stars with large followings, Artens is part of a younger generation of artists seeking to make their mark in an increasingly competitive market.
His breakthrough came with Nze Naawe, a romantic track whose title translates from Luganda as “Me and You.” The song’s themes of love, loyalty and companionship resonated with listeners, helping it become his most recognizable release to date.
The success of the single has drawn attention to an artist whose journey began far from the spotlight.
Artens attended St. Matia Mulumba Muslim Primary School before pursuing secondary education at Wakiso Hill Secondary School. He later completed his Advanced Level studies at Kitebi Senior Secondary School, earning Uganda’s Advanced Certificate of Education.
After leaving school, he turned his focus to music, officially launching his recording career in 2021. In the years that followed, he released several songs, including Wansubiza, Gwe Abulawo, Sembera, Call Yo, Mpumuza and Mbaala, gradually establishing a presence within Uganda’s music landscape.
His rise reflects broader changes within East Africa’s entertainment industry, where digital streaming platforms and social media have enabled independent artists to reach audiences without the backing of major record labels.
Music industry analysts say the growth of online distribution has lowered barriers for emerging musicians, allowing new voices to compete alongside established performers. Uganda, one of East Africa’s most vibrant music markets, has produced a growing number of artists who have found success through online audiences before securing mainstream recognition.
For Artens, the popularity of Nze Naawe represents a significant milestone in a career still in its early stages.
While the singer has yet to achieve the international profile enjoyed by some of Uganda’s biggest music exports, the success of the song has positioned him among the country’s emerging artists to watch.
As he works on new projects and seeks to expand his audience, Artens is hoping to build on the momentum generated by Nze Naawe and establish himself as a lasting presence in Uganda’s evolving music industry.
