MP Theodore Ssekikubo calls for the removal of Hon Mpuuga and co from the Parliamentary Commission

Lwemiyaga County MP, Hon Theodore Ssekikubo has called for the removal of the four MPs led by Hon Mathias Mpuuga from the Parliamentary Commission over the service awards they awarded themselves. It should be noted that a few months ago, information appeared in the news showing massive and gross appropriation of taxpayers’ money amongst a couple of MPs on the Parliamentary Commission.

These dominated the news and even had severe repercussions for the likes of Mpuuga especially in his party, NUP. He was sacked by Bobi Wine from the deputy leadership role of the party and replaced by Joel Ssenyonyi as the leader of Opposition.

Well it seems the repercussions are yet to stop for them. According to Ssekikubo, these MPs should be removed from their positions on the Commission. This will help to mend the tainted image of Parliament. Besides it will help to reinstate and strengthen public confidence into the August House from the public.

“Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga County) has called for the removal of all the four MPs from the Parliamentary Commission, over the Shs400M-Shs500M they shared amongst themselves as service award, saying their ouster will restore the dignity & integrity of Parliament, and also maintain & strengthen the public trust and confidence in Parliament,” the MP partly said.

Additionally, the MP said that there was gross misconduct by these MPs as they went ahead to award themselves a monthly salary of Shs 23 million on top of their parliamentary salary.

The accused MPs are Esther Afoyochan (Zombo DWR), Prossy Akampulira (Rubanda DWR), Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central) and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe) from their positions as members of the Parliamentary Commission.

According to Ssekikubo, the censure motion will only require 177 signatures, and called on all MPs to come out of hiding and append their signatures to the censure motion in order to save Uganda from being hijacked by the dogs.
