Ssemujju Nganda reveals why the late Gen Elly Tumwine was sacked as Army Commander

Kiira Municipality MP Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda is one person who is known to be so vocal and doesn’t mince his words. Ssemujju had on a number of occasions clashed with the late Gen Elly Tumwine during different political shows on different media stations.

It should be recalled that Tumwine succumbed to lung cancer yesterday at Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi aged 68.

Tumwine a bush war hero served as the Army commander between 2003-2005. Ssemujju however said that he wasn’t rested but rather was fired by Museveni from this post.

The FDC spokesperson added that Gen Tumwine is someone who has always exhibited a sense of self importance.

Since the bush war days, Tumwine wanted to always be above the ordinary. This is the reason that got him sacked as the Army commander according to Ssemujju.

Additionally he wanted to show his strength which at times made him utter reckless statements such as the one making rounds currently of when he said that Police reserves the right to shoot highly violent protectors.

Further, Ssemujju said that Tumwine failed to know that its only President Museveni and Gen Salim Saleh who have power in Uganda.

“Gen. Tumwine is one person who has, since the bush, wanted to elevate himself above others, and that is how he was sacked as Army Commander.

He wanted to exhibit power all the time, till the last statement he made that’s making rounds. He wanted to exhibit power, but actually, he was powerless because the only people who have power are Museveni and his brother Saleh,” said Hon Ssemujju Nganda

It should be recalled that at the height of the political tension leading to the 2021 general elections, over 50 people were gunned and killed by Police in Kampala.

Tumwine who was the security minister by then came out and defended the security agencies.

He said that they reserved the right to shoot at any one who became so violent and rowdy.

This statement did not go well with some sections of Ugandans. It’s the reason majority on social media have come to out to jubilate over his untimely demise.
