Former MP for Nakifuma County Hon Kafeero Ssekitoleko has said the reason why President Museveni doesn’t want to leave power is for the good of Ugandans. Ssekitoleko says Museveni genuinely cares about Ugandans and that is the reason he doesn’t want to step down.
The ex legislator recalled one time when they met him during the age limit bill. One MP reportedly told Museveni how removing the age limit would wash away the only remaining hope of having another President.
This MP further told Museveni how he has hopes of being the Ugandan president but didn’t know how that would be possible when there are no term limits or age limits.
Museveni told this MP that no other Ugandan can be the president of the country when the Bush war heroes are still alive. This is because they would never let such a thing happen.
Therefore Museveni is doing whatever he can to retire them one by one, appoint them as ministers and assign others several duties until all of them are out of the army.
That’s when another Ugandan will be able to rule the country and Ssekitoleko saw some truth in this.
“One thing that showed me that President Museveni genuinely cares about Ugandans is the day we met for the age limit bill. One MP told him removing the age limit would wash away the only remanlining hope of having a different president. He asked him, “I also want to be a President of this country one day but how will this be possible where there’s no term or age limits?”
“Museveni’s response was, ” let me yell you this, no other Ugandan can be a President of this country when the Bush war heroes are still around. They would never let that happen. What I am doing is to retire them one by one, appoint some as Ministers and other duties until all of them are out of the army. That’s when another Ugandan will be in position to be President.” I saw some truths in this,” said Ssekitoleko while appearing on Urban TV.
