DP president and the new Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Nobert Mao has fronted a candidate in the yet to be conducted Busongora County South By-election.
Businge Benadet is the candidate that DP has decided to front in this election. Taking to his Twitter page, Mao said that “Busongora South here we come with a breath of fresh air!.
The comments from social media users are all seemingly telling Mao to stop pretending that he’s genuinely thinking of DP winning this election.
It’s rather a plot between him and his new ‘masters’ the NRM to confuse voters in the Constituency.
Meanwhile the Electoral Commission set the 22nd of August as the date that the election will go down. The seat fell vacant on the 21st of June after a petition lodged in by Jackson Kathika Mbaju against NRM’s Gideon Thembo Mujungu.
Mbaju argued that Thembo who beat him by just 79 votes was irregularly voted which saw the court of Appeal rule in his favor.
The election has already heated up with 5 people already expressing their interest in the seat in what is expected to be an explosive election.
All the political parties have opted to go with their 2021 flag bearers.
Mr Mujungu in the 2021 general election topped the bill with 7,609 votes. Mr Mbaju, an aggrieved Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party-leaning Independent, polled 7,522 votes to place second.
Mr Aloysius Baguma Kighema, the FDC flag bearer, garnered 6,956 votes to come in third. Ms Bernadette Businge (DP) finished sixth with 1,318 votes, and Mr Juma Muzenero (Alliance for National Transformation – ANT) brought up the rear with 484 votes.
However, Mbaju switched camps from FDC to NUP and he will be the official flagbearer for the party.
Its waited to see if either the FDC or NUP will decide to back up one another in their new found bromance.
