Al Jazeera journalist shot and killed by Israeli forces

Shireen Abu Akleh, 51 a journalist belonging to mega news network Al Jazeera has been shot dead by Israeli forces.

The veteran journalist was shot and killed in the occupied West Bank. This was confirmed by the Palestinian health ministry.

She was covering the Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp before being shot in the face and killed instantly.

Ali al-Samoudi, a Palestinian journalist was also shot in the back but is now in a stable condition.

The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that these were fired at by the Israeli forces. And in a video that has been moving, Abu Akleh can be seen wearing a blue jacket with the word PRESS clearly written on.

Although the Israeli forces confirmed an operation on the Jenin camp, it denied having targeted journalists deliberately.

“The (army) of course does not aim at journalists,” a military official said.

They further said that there was exchange of fire between the suspects and the armed forces.

The Israeli authorities aded that they are “investigating the event and looking into the possibility that journalists were hit by the Palestinian gunmen.”

The foreign minister of Israel Yair Lapid has also said that Israel has offered a joint investigation to the Palestinians into the matter.
