Breaking News: Former CDF Gen Katumba Wamala shot at, daughter and bodyguard killed

Former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Army representative in Parliament, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala has been involved in an assassination attempt while on his way on Kisota road, Kisaasi, an incident that got his daughter and bodyguard killed on the spot.

Reports indicate assailants were trailing Gen Katumba Wamala’s vehicle a Landcruiser 200 series Reg number H4DF 2138 before opening fire at close range and taking off immediately.

Katumba Wamala survived with bullets in his left arm and chest and by press time, he had been rushed to Malcom Clinic before being rushed to Medipal hospital.

According to onlookers and standers-by, the assailants proceeded through Kisaasi roundabout after their mission and vanished.

Katumba Wamala was reportedly on his way to attend a vigil for his mother-in-law at the time of the shooting.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire has confirmed the shooting but promised to give more details later in a security brief expected later today.

General Katumba Wamala served as Chief of Defence Forces from 2013 to 2017 in the UPDF before being appointed as Minister of works President Yoweri Museveni in December 2019.

He was the first serving army officer to head the Uganda Police Force (2001-2005) as Inspector General of Police a period during which he was lauded for revitalising the image of the police when he tried to end negligence of duty by the officers.

He is a fitness enthusiast who has been an active member of the Boy Scouts movement in Uganda for many years. He is involved in the Rotary society as well.
