Bobi Wine and EU Ambassador Jan Sadek Discuss Democratic Reforms in Uganda
In a significant development for Uganda’s political landscape, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine, met with the European Union’s Head of Delegation to Uganda, Ambassador Jan Sadek, on May 12, 2025. The meeting, held in Kampala, underscored the EU’s continued interest in Uganda’s democratic processes and human rights situation.
Following their discussion, both leaders addressed the media, emphasizing the importance of transparent governance and the rule of law. Ambassador Sadek reiterated the EU’s commitment to supporting democratic institutions in Uganda, stating, “Our engagement with various stakeholders, including opposition leaders, is crucial for fostering a democratic environment.”
Bobi Wine expressed appreciation for the EU’s support and highlighted ongoing concerns regarding political freedoms and electoral integrity in Uganda. He called for increased international attention to ensure fair political practices ahead of the 2026 general elections.
This meeting marks a continued dialogue between the EU and Ugandan opposition figures, reflecting a shared interest in promoting democratic values and human rights in the country.
