Uganda Confirms Six New Ebola Cases as Government Steps Up Containment Efforts

The Ministry of Health has reported six new cases of Ebola virus disease, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to nine since the outbreak was declared on January 30, 2025. The initial case, known as the index case, unfortunately succumbed to the disease. The remaining eight patients are currently receiving medical care and are in stable condition; seven are being treated at Mulago National Referral Hospital, while one is at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

In response to the outbreak, the Ministry has quarantined 265 contacts and implemented strict monitoring protocols. Efforts to contain the virus include heightened surveillance, intensified public health risk communication, and strengthened community engagement.

Dr. Charles Olaro, the Acting Director General of Health Services, emphasized that the situation is under control and that there are no travel restrictions in place. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any individuals exhibiting symptoms consistent with Ebola to the nearest health facility or by calling the toll-free line: 0800-100-066.

The ministry continues to work closely with international partners to manage the outbreak and prevent further spread of the virus.
