Entebbe International Airport authorities recently intercepted two women attempting to smuggle mobile phones worth Shs162 million concealed inside artificial baby bumps. The women, traveling from Dubai, aroused suspicion during routine checks by customs officials, prompting further inspection.
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) revealed that the smuggling attempt involved high-value smartphones intended to bypass taxes. Upon discovery, both suspects were arrested and will be prosecuted for tax evasion and smuggling.
URA officials reiterated their commitment to vigilance at Uganda’s border points to deter similar crimes. Customs officers continue to conduct random inspections and use intelligence-driven approaches to identify smuggling trends. This latest arrest reflects increased scrutiny in the fight against illicit trade.
