Police on 28th December 2022 reported a fatal road accident involving a courier truck and two other vehicles leading to the death of nine on Masaka road.
The territorial traffic police in Masaka, at around 7.30PM, registered a fatal accident that happened at Kaganda towards Kyojja swamp in Kinoni along Masaka – Mbarara highway in Lwengo district.
According to the Police, an Actros trucker had a tyre burst that got the driver losing control. The statement shared by ASP Faridah Nampiima, the PRO Traffic and Road safety, read;
“It is alleged that motor vehicle Reg No RAF 168S/RL 1426 Mercedes Benz Actros trailer from Masaka heading to Mbarara side had a rear tyre bust, lost control and crossed over to the lane of on-coming vehicles, and ramming into vehicles: Reg No UBJ 084N Toyota Hiace and UAP 126A (Mark II Grand), from opposite direction which were travelling to Masaka. The incident claimed nine lives.”
Further, ‘twelve injured victims’ were ‘rushed to Masaka hospital for first aid’ with one in critical condition.
“Our Fire and Rescue services personnel are at the scene to remove bodies as some remain stuck.”
“Details of the deceased persons and the injured will be shared in due course. Our condolences to the families of the deceased persons and wish a quick recovery to the injured.”
This is the second accident reported on Masaka road in less than a week after another accident claimed 5 on boxing day
