The Speaker of Parliament Hon Anita Among while chairing a Parliamentary session this week advised men to stop drinking alcohol.
According to the Speaker, it’s a fact that when men drink, they fail to perform their sexual duties as they ought to be.
She also said that when these men drink, they abandon their families.
“It is a fact that when people drink, they abandon their families. It is also a fact that when you men drink, you even fail to perform.” – Hon. Anita Annet Among.
This followed Tororo woman MP Hon Sarah Achieng Opendi’s search for permission to leave the house to introduce a bill titled the ‘Alcohol Control Bill, 2022.’
The object of the bill is to enact a comprehensive piece of legislation that contains provisions that
address the prevailing circumstances regarding the consumption and challenges caused by the excessive use of alcoholic drinks.
Particularly it’s aimed at the regulation, the manufacture, importation, sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks.
Further, it also targets licensing persons trading in alcoholic drinks and premises where alcoholic drinks are sold; to prohibit the sale of alcoholic drinks to specified persons; to regulate the promotion and advertisement of alcoholic drinks.
Also it aims at creating public awareness on the dangers of excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks, to rehabilitate, counsel and treat persons who have developed mental challenges arising from the excessive use of alcoholic drinks
