Uganda captain Emma Okwi lands new club

Veteran footballer and Uganda Cranes captain Emmanuel Okwi is now a player to Iraqi based club Al Zawraa Sports club.

The winger put pen to paper yesterday 29th September 2022.

He did this in Iraq after flying to the Middle Eastern country.

Okwi finalized the move after his contract with Kiyovu Sports Club in the Rwanda Premier League came to an end.

The former Simba SC player had joined the Rwandese outfit last season on a one year deal.

Surprisingly Okwi turned down moves to some of the biggest clubs in Rwanda such as Rayon Sport, APR and Kiyovu itself to finalize the move to Al Zawraa.

The club is based in Utayfia in the Karkh district around the Tigris River just close to the capital Baghdad.

It was founded 53 years ago and was originally known as Al-Muwasalat.

They have a stadium known as Al-Zawraa stadium. It’s a 15,433 seater.

Al Zawraa plays in the top flight league of Iraq known as Iraqi Premier League.

This club is the most successful in the country having won 14 league titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups plus 5 Iraq super cups which are all records in the country.
