Bugiri Municipality MP Hon Asuman Basalirwa has come out to day that the Ugandan government is using the Ukrainian-Russian conflict as an escape route for the high and outrageous prices of commodities.
Basalirwa while appearing on NBS TV said that they were promised that the high prices would be stabilized in three weeks. Yet up to now nothing has been done yet.
“The issue of the skyrocketing prices started with fuel. We were promised that in three weeks, the situation would stabilize, but up to now, it hasn’t. The war between Russia and Ukraine has now become an escape route.”
Basalirwa also apologized to the citizens on behalf of Parliament.
He said that as legislators, they have bot given much attention to the issue of skyrocketing prices.
“I want to apologize to the country that, as Parliament, we haven’t given much attention to the issue of skyrocketing prices. We discussed it in Parliament, but the discussion didn’t take long. We are doing a disservice to the country.”
It should be noted that prices of commodities have spiraled out of their normal fees which is a hindrance to most people who are still recovering from the effects of the pandemic.
The position of the government on this topic is not yet stable as different officials keep saying different things.
