Traders in the Kampala Metropolitan area have taken the initiative to assist the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in enforcing regulations against trespassing. Passersby who intrude into designated city areas will now face strict consequences.
A video shared on social media shows individuals in the city center receiving severe punishments for trespassing. KCCA has identified specific areas designated for grass planting, but some pedestrians were spotted walking on these grounds.
The traders decided to punish these offenders by handing them hoes to help cultivate the areas they had stepped on. Numerous individuals were seen digging and preparing the soil for the grass to be sown.
This action has been positively received by a significant portion of the public, as the traders, who are the primary residents of the city, are taking responsibility for enhancing the city’s appearance. The public has often been guilty of damaging city property intended for community use.
Incidents of vandalism have included streetlights, manholes, placing posters on walls and electric poles, and littering. Recently, some individuals were penalized by KCCA for trespassing and polluting the city. Consequently, anyone visiting the city should be prepared to comply with the newly established guidelines.
