CAF Postpones 2024 CHAN Tournament to August 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025.

Originally scheduled for February 2024, the tournament was first delayed to February 2025. However, due to ongoing challenges, CAF has now rescheduled the event to August 2025.

The decision was made after assessing the readiness of the host nations—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. CAF cited delays in infrastructure development, including stadiums and training facilities, as key factors influencing the postponement.

In a statement, CAF expressed confidence that the additional time would allow the host countries to meet the necessary requirements, ensuring a successful tournament. The organization emphasized its commitment to delivering a high-quality event for players, fans, and stakeholders.

The CHAN tournament, which features national teams composed exclusively of players active in their domestic leagues, is a significant event in African football. The rescheduling aims to provide adequate preparation time for all parties involved, maintaining the integrity and competitive nature of the championship.

CAF has indicated that the official draw for the tournament will proceed as planned on January 15, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi. The exact dates for the rescheduled tournament in August 2025 will be announced in due course.

This postponement marks the second delay for the 2024 CHAN tournament, reflecting the complexities involved in organizing a multi-nation event across East Africa. CAF continues to work closely with the host countries to address the challenges and ensure the successful delivery of the championship.
