It looks like all the agreements and contracts between Twitter and the world’s richest man Elon Musk have been finalized for him to take over the social media platform.
Musk through his Twitter page has now revealed why he decided to finally buy the app.
He said that there has been much speculation about why he bought Twitter and especially what he thinks of advertising on the platform.
A lot of these speculations Mr Musk informed are wrong.
The reason he bought Twitter is because it’s important for the future of civilization to have a common digital townsquare.
This is necessary to have a ground for a healthy debate of a wide range of beliefs without resorting to violence.
Further, he added, that there is fear that social media will erupt into far right and far left wings which will then result into more hate thus dividing society.
He also faulted tradition media for fueling extremes in the search for clicks which they believe earn them more money yet it just makes the situation worse and in doing so lose ground for dialogue.
This is the major reason he bought Twitter, to create harmony among the human race.
He didn’t do it because its going to be easy or because he’s going to make a lot of money.
Musk went ahead to say that he did it to save humanity whom he loves a lot.
Despite his aim at promoting free speech for all, it doesn’t mean that those who violate the platform’s policies won’t face any repercussions.
The South African born billionaire was supposed to have bought the social media platform a while back in April at 44 billion dollars.
He however opted out of the deal after he accused
Twitter of breaching their agreement by refusing to crack down on spambot accounts.
A lawsuit was then filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery by the company against the Tesla boss.
This trial was supposed to begin on October 17th although Musk on October 4th said that he had decided to move ahead with the deal and buy the company.
