Weeks into the second lockdown, city traders have kept around their business premises in the city canter contrary to presidential directive barring movement of persons to control the spread of COVID -19. Police which has in the past days cautioned traders now say they will arrest and charge defiant persons in courts of law.
Police roadblocks manned by armed police and LDUs is what welcomes you into the city centre. But just like the case has been, only authorized persons are allowed into the city centre.
But while most roads in the city are almost empty, the situation is different in the city center. Some traders who have been operating from the arcades continue to defy the presidential directive by sneaking into the city, parking near their previous places of work.
Not only these traders that are back on the streets, some hawkers were also seen moving around doing their business.
Some of the angry traders suggest that the government should ignore them as they look for food to feed their family.
With the recent passing of a public health statutory instrument to prevent COVID 19, Police now says they will with immediate effect start arresting and prosecuting anyone found in breach of COVID- 19 guidelines.
Under the new statutory instruments one is liable to a two months imprisonment if in breach of the guidelines that include not wearing a mask and other standard operating procedures.
