Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has dismissed claims that he has written to President Yoweri Museveni asking him to retire from active politics ahead of the announcing of the next cabinet.
While addressing journalists at Parliament last evening, the Prime minister said revolutionaries do not just retire from service, adding he is still strong enough to continue serving the People of Uganda.
“Those are lies, I have not written to HE the president or talked to him about that. take it that it is a fabrication, a concoction by some people who have put it on social media. they have not talked to me about it,” he said.
Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda was responding to social media reports indicating he had penned a letter to the deploying officer President Yoweri Museveni asking he is retired to pave way for the redeployment of former Premier John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.
Speaking to the media at parliament, Dr Rugunda said the allegations were baseless, fabricated by ill-intentioned people.
“Revolutionaries have a responsibility to advance their revolution, to serve their population and my role is to make a contribution in service to the people of Uganda.”
Dr Rugunda, who has been an ever present in Yoweri Museveni’s government said he had no plans of leaving government – as long as he is strong enough to serve.
“We don’t think about positions, we think about revolution. We think about service to the people, social-economic transformation, the unity of the people of East Africa and Africa.”
The soft spoken veteran politician said he was open to deployment anywhere in government.
In a mini reshuffle, on the 19th of September 2014, President Yoweri Museveni sacked his longtime friend John Patrick Amama Mbabazi from the office of the Prime Minister after fallout, replacing him with the then Minister for Health Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda .
