Security agencies have extended their operations against properties linked to Anita Among, with her residence in Kigo becoming the latest target in an ongoing joint security crackdown.
According to reports, a heavily armed joint team comprising officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, and other intelligence agencies conducted searches at the former speaker’s upscale lakeside home in Kigo, Wakiso District, on Sunday.
The latest operation follows earlier raids at Among’s residences in Nakasero and Ntinda, signaling what observers describe as an expanding investigation into alleged corruption, illicit wealth accumulation, and money laundering.
Security personnel reportedly sealed off access to the Kigo property during the operation, restricting movement in and out of the premises as investigators carried out searches for documents and other materials believed to be relevant to the probe.
Sources cited in local media reports indicate that investigators are particularly interested in financial records, procurement documentation, and asset declarations linked to Among’s tenure as Speaker of Parliament.
The developments come amid heightened political tension following the conclusion of the 11th Parliament and ahead of the anticipated election of the next Speaker for the 12th Parliament. Political pressure around Among’s leadership has intensified in recent weeks, with growing scrutiny over her wealth and influence within the ruling establishment.
Public debate surrounding the former Speaker escalated further after petitions were reportedly filed with the Inspectorate of Government seeking investigations into her assets and wealth declarations.
