After police detectives successfully located the young woman Eva Mbabazi to provide information regarding the death of Dr. Spire Kiggundu, the owner of Henrob Hospital and a well-regarded gynaecologist, she disclosed during questioning that she had known him since 2018 when she accompanied her ill sister to Henrob Hospital, and that they had been having a discreet relationship despite his marriage.
On June 22, she met him at a guest house where he had previously checked in alone that evening. She explained to detectives that upon entering the room, she discovered two bottles of water, juice, and two brand-new HIV testing kits, but there were no condoms present. After approximately 30 minutes of engaging in romantic activities and sexual encounters, Dr. Kiggundu began to experience difficulty breathing. Assuming it could be a seizure (ensimbu), she remained with him, but he did not improve. In a state of panic, she chose to leave quickly, only to return for the perfume the doctor had recently given her. Upon re-entering, she found him lying still, but in her distress, she decided to leave again.
Eva Mbabazi also recounted that while traveling on a bodaboda back home, she attempted to call him afterward, but her calls went unanswered. CCTV footage and phone records later indicated that she was the last person seen with Dr. Kiggundu. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the woman was apprehended in Seeta, Mukono District, and is currently in custody at Kajjansi Police Station.
