Western Uganda Mourns Beloved Radio Icon Clare Chopa, Dead at 53

Renowned radio personality from western Uganda, Clare Ekiyaasiima, widely known as Clare Chopa, tragically passed away this morning, the 29th of June 2025, according to reliable information received by this website. Reports indicate that Clare lost her life due to high blood pressure at Divine Mercy Hospital in Rwebikoona, Mbarara.

She was married to another well-known media personality, Radio West’s Kabagambe Patrick, who hosts the Owakutanga Aheeru program. Clare began her career in the media over two decades ago, having worked with several prominent radio stations in the area. Her resume includes positions at Vision FM, Endigito FM, Radio West, and Grace FM. At one point, she served as the General Manager at Greater African Radio.

At the time of her passing, she was 53 years old. Over her 25-year career in the media industry, Clare Chopa became one of the most popular and widely listened-to radio presenters.

In the last general elections, she ventured into politics by contesting for the woman MP seat of Mbarara City but was defeated by Ritah Atukwase. She had intended to run again as an independent candidate in the 2026 elections.

May her soul find eternal peace.
