The Ministry of Health has officially appointed Dr. Charles Olaro as the new Director General of Health Services, marking a significant step in strengthening leadership within Uganda’s health sector.
Dr. Olaro, who previously served as the Director of Clinical Services, has been acting in the role of Director General since November 2024. His confirmation brings stability and continuity to a position critical for policy implementation, health systems oversight, and nationwide service delivery.

As Director of Clinical Services, he was instrumental in coordinating service delivery across hospitals and health facilities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and other national health emergencies.
His elevation to Director General is expected to further advance the government’s goal of achieving universal health coverage and improving health outcomes across Uganda.
