Ugandan sports stars Jane Asinde, Juma Miyaji, and Sharif Kalanzi were the biggest winners at the Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards for February, held at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo. The three athletes were recognized for their outstanding performances in basketball, cricket, and football, respectively.
Asinde’s Unstoppable Form
Jane Asinde, who plays for the Wichita State University women’s basketball team in the USA, claimed the basketball accolade after a remarkable month. She was instrumental in her team’s success, delivering double-doubles in multiple games. Asinde edged out strong competition from Gazelles captain Hope Akello and UCU Lady Canons’ rising star Gloria Najjuma to secure the award.
Miyaji Leads Cricket Triumph
In cricket, Juma Miyaji was crowned the best player of the month following his exceptional performance in Uganda’s historic qualification for the ICC U-19 World Cup. Miyaji’s consistency with both bat and ball made him a key figure in the Baby Cricket Cranes’ campaign, helping Uganda qualify for their fourth-ever World Cup appearance. He beat competition from Frank Nsubuga and Joseph Baguma to clinch the award.
Kalanzi Stands Out in Football
Sharif Kalanzi of Gaddafi FC was named the footballer of the month, thanks to his impressive performances in the Uganda Premier League. Kalanzi’s standout displays helped his team secure crucial points, making him a deserving winner ahead of Vipers SC’s Allan Okello and Wakiso Giants’ Sharif Kasirye.
Continued Recognition for Ugandan Talent
The Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards continue to recognize and motivate outstanding Ugandan athletes across different disciplines. February’s edition once again proved that the country is brimming with talent, with Asinde, Miyaji, and Kalanzi leading the charge.
With the awards now concluded, all eyes will be on March’s top performers as Uganda’s sports stars continue to shine on both local and international stages.
