The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the final draw for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, pitting Uganda in Group C with Niger and Guinea.
The tournament, rescheduled to August 2025 to allow thorough preparations, will feature 16 teams divided into four groups.
Uganda has been placed in Group C alongside Niger, Guinea, and two other yet-to-be-established countries.
The complete group allocations are as follows:
- Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angola, Zambia
- Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Central African Republic
- Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Two TBD countries
- Group D: Senegal, Congo, Nigeria and Sudan
The draw was conducted by CAF Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu, with assistance from former Ugandan international Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Tanzanian footballer Mrisho Ngasa.
The CHAN tournament is unique in that it features national teams composed exclusively of players active in their respective domestic leagues. This focus provides a platform for local talent to showcase their skills on an international stage.
With the draw now complete, participating teams can intensify their preparations for the tournament. The rescheduling to August 2025 offers additional time for host nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to finalize infrastructure and logistical arrangements, ensuring a successful championship.
