Next Media Services under its NBS brand has launched an entire channel that will be dedicated to sports coverage allover Uganda.
This is in a bid to promote Ugandan sport by giving it the necessary coverage. The launch ceremony took place at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel and had the Deputy speaker of Parliament Hon Thomas Tayebwa as the chief guest.
He was escorted by the Minister of Information, Communications Technology and National Guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi and the State Minister for Sports Hon Hanson Obua.
While speaking about this channel, Joseph Kigozi the Deputy Group CEO and NBS Sports General Manager said that this channel will help to generate income for all the parties involved. He described it as the home of Ugandan sport now.
“We have put together a platform where Ugandan sport can leave the back pages and small segments of daily content because Ugandan sport now has a home.”
“Sport can be a source of income for all stakeholders. A dedicated channel like0qqp NBS Sport is a great start on that journey. We look forward to working with all involved to make this a success.” said Joseph Kigozi.
Next Media Services CEO Kin Karisa said that this move will help to fill the gaps that their existing brands haven been able to fulfill. He added that hopefully this move will impact the country positively.
“NBS Sport allows us to play in a unique gap for an audience across demographics that we didn’t already do with our existing brands,” Kin Kariisa, the Next Media Group CEO, said.
Kariisa then added, “With NBS Sport, we want to play as big as we always do – we fully understand the mantle to add the deserved great value sports needs in this country, and we are hopeful that with our job done well, sports policy in our country will be positively affected.”
NBS Sport has already secured partnership with different sports Federations in Uganda such as Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations, Uganda Boxing Federation, Uganda Athletics Fed- eration, Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda, the Pool Association of Uganda, and Uganda Chess Federation, among so many others.
It will be exclusive sports content from all around Uganda by this new channel.
“NBS Sport is Uganda’s only 24-hour sports television station, shaping the narrative through Live Coverage and analysis of sports current affairs, events, business, enter- tainment and more around the country and beyond.
NBS Sport is available on DStv Channel 377, StarTimes Channel 255, Free-To-Air Channel 34, and exclusively streamed via Afro Mobile,” according to Nile Post news an outlet of Next Media Services.
The TV channel is available in HD and SD on DStv, StarTimes, Free-To-Air, and streaming exclusively on Afro Mobile. It will be live 24-hours a day. It will officially kick off with live National Basketball League action between the UPDF Tomahawks and City Oilers.
It has already commenced and some of its presenters include former NTV Pressbox presenter Andrew Kabuura, Capital FM sports presenter Brian Tuka among others.
