The father of the late speaker of Parliament Hon Jacob Oulanyah, Mr Nathan Okori has come out to reveal the cause his son’s death.
It should be recalled that Hon Oulanyah breathed his last yesterday in Seattle where he has been hospitalized for a number of weeks.
President Museveni through his Twitter page announced the sad news which shocked the nation. Tributes have since then been pouring in from different personalities across the globe.
Rumors however have been surrounding the cause of the Speaker’s death at such a young age of 56 years.
Some have reported it as a natural death resulting from stage four colon cancer while others believe he was killed.
According to Oulanyah’s father, his son was poisoned and people should not be made to believe otherwise regardless of the postmortem results.
While addressing mourners that had already turned up at his home in Omoro, Mr Okori says that his son’s death is not natural as quoted by Daily Monitor.
“I know all of you who have come here are mourners. His (Oulanyah’s) death is not easy news to welcome because I know he did not die of natural causes, he was poisoned,” Mr Okori told handful mourners at their ancestral home in Omoro District.
He also said that he doesn’t want his son’s funeral to be politicized.
“I don’t want somebody to bring their politics here,” Mr Okori said yesterday in Omoro.
“I know very well that he was poisoned, and whatever somebody will say tomorrow should not distort the information we now have.”
According to Okori, Oulanyah’s sickness became visibly clear after being elected the speaker of the 11th Parliament in May last year.
The Minister of information Dr Chris Baryomunsi however denied these allegations calling them baseless. He added that people should wait for the postmortem which will answer all the lingering questions.
“Ignore that information [poisoning claims]. The post-mortem report will be released and the government will give out a statement.”
