60 acquire Netball umpiring skills in Western Uganda

The first-ever organized netball umpiring course in Bushenyi has attracted 60 trainees from 15 districts of Mbarara, Ntungamo, Sheema, Ibanda, Isingiro, Kiruhura, Buhweju, Bushenyi, Mitooma, Rubirizi, Kasese, Rukungiri, Kabale, Rubanda, Kamwenge and Kyegegwa turned up apart from Buhweju and Kiruhura that didn’t send trainees.

The zone 15 as named by UNF, is holding this training as a residential course at Bushenyi Town School in  Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality and its also organized by Netball Zone 15 and UNF.

The mixed collection of majorly teachers and sports administrators started on Monday and will be ending on Saturday and netball instructor Africa level 3 Milly Kamoga is conducting it.

The netball sports discipline has for long been a neglected sport in the region, with very few schools taking part and a counted number of clubs based in Mbarara, but Robert Arinaitwe, who is one of the organisers of the course, says this is the real beginning of the journey to promote the sport in the area.

It was officially opened on Tuesday by Bushenyi district Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (ACAO) Geoffrey Nkurunziza and will end on Saturday with a special closing ceremony and award of certificates for the successful participants.
