Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus over long-awaited Public University in the Sub-region

Legislators hailing from Bunyoro Sub-region under their umbrella body Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus are set to petition President Yoweri Museveni over developments in the Sub-region. The legislators who will be led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja say their main agenda is to lobby President Museveni to accept the establishment of the long-awaited Public University in the Bunyoro Sub-region.

While electing the new leadership for the Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus last month, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja promised the legislators from Bunyoro that she will organize a meeting with President Museveni for them to iron out the key issues affecting their Sub-region.

Now the latest information indicates that Bunyoro legislators are set to meet the President on Wednesday this week at State House Entebbe after their meeting from which they drafted the document that will be presented to the President. They say the main focus for this meeting is only to agitate for the establishment of a Public University in Bunyoro.

Kibanda North Member of Parliament Linos Ngompek says they will be meeting the president over the matter;

“We intend to have a meeting with the president on Wednesday and we shall emphasize that the need for the University.”

Ngompek and other members of the caucus have been involved in controversy over where the University should be located. However, the Chairperson of the Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus Jacob Karubanga says the controversy surrounding where the University is to be established has also been resolved.

The leadership of the Caucus has also warned members who will move against the caucus resolution and front their personal issues, risk disciplinary action.

In December during the presidential campaigns, President Museveni granted Bunyoro a public university.
