Vipers edge KCCA FC with controversial own goal at Kitende

Vipers Sports Club has edged their arch-rivals KCCA FC after a controversial own goal by Peter Magambo broke the deadlock in the first half.

The Venoms end their first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League in the second position after condemning 13-time champions KCCCA FC to a fourth loss and claim the 10th win themselves coming off a disappointing loss away at URA FC in their preceding fixture.

It was a tough contest between the two sides, however, the game did not yield the result anticipated having been tipped to be one of those games expected to producing a thrilling result.

Vipers first attempt came in the 7th minute through Disan Galiwango but shot-stopper Charles Lukwago forced it out.

Ceaser Manzoki could have created for Karim Watambala but his effort was cleared.

Peter Magambo’s controversial own goal in the 39th minute was the difference as the Venoms emerged top. The KCCA FC defender deflected a Disan Galiwango low ball into his own net, but the clarity of if the goal should have counted or not remained moot and has sparked controversy on the different ends.

Nevertheless, Vipers’ win propels them into the second position on the log with 33 points 3 behind leaders URA FC who defeated Onduparaka FC 3-0 thanks to a Steven Mukwala brace and Cromwell Rwothomio’s strike to extend their lead.

Away in Mbarara, home side Mbarara City and BUL FC played to a q-all draw, while SC Villa defeated Soltilo Brightstars 2-1 at the Kavumba Recreation center.

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League continues on Thursday with Kitara making a long trip to Njeru to face Busoga United.
