Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will remain the President of the Republic of Uganda until 2026 following a massive win in the 2021 elections with a percentage win of 58.6.
Museveni was announced the winner of the elections beating ten other candidates, a feat that will see him extend his status as president of Uganda to 40 years.
As per the pronouncement made by the Electoral Commission (EC) chairman Simon Byabakama on Saturday at the National Tally Center, Kyambogo credited Museveni with 5,851,037 votes, representing 58.64% of the 9,978,093 valid votes tallied over the period of 48 hours.
“Having obtained the highest number of votes; and votes cast in his favor being more than 50% at the election, EC declares candidate Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni as the president of Uganda through an election held January 14,” EC chairperson Byabakama said as he was making the announcement.
National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi came second with a cumulative tally of 3,475,298 votes, which is 34.83 percent of the total votes which means that the incumbent beat his biggest rival by 2,375,739 to the country’s top seat.
Presidency through the January 14 poll remained a mission next to impossible for the other nine candidates lined against Mr Museveni as more polling centres got ‘called’.
Here is how all the eleven candidates performed in the Presidential race.

Developing story indicates that Robert Kyagulanyi has raised concerns over the elections claiming they were a sham and the results were rigged, something the Electoral Commission has denied and called him out to present his evidence of any vote-rigging in Thursday’s poll.
National Unity Platform (NUP) spokes person Joel Ssenyonyi told the AFP that Kyagulanyi “is under effective house arrest”. However, the government said it was only providing him with security.
“People are angry because their vote has been stolen. They don’t need me or Kyagulanyi to tell them to get angry… Even we can’t control them.” Ssenyonyi was reported saying.
