NUP’s Kyagulanyi vows not to halt his campaigns in areas prohibited by the EC

National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has vowed not to halt his campaigns in the 13 cities and towns where the electoral commission suspended campaigns as a measure to curb the surging COVID-19 cases in the coutnry.

Kyagulanyi accuses his rival Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of continuing to campaign in the said areas and says he is just disguising in commissioning of road construction projects.

“We have seen Mr. Museveni campaigning in Mukono, you have seen him campaigning in Wakiso and yesterday he was campaigning in Busabala. He is the same person giving orders to the Electoral Commission not allow us to campaign,” he said before adding that;

“We are going to be in Bukomansimbi and Mpigi and at this very moment, I am setting off for Mpigi.”

But before setting off for his campaign meetings in Mpigi and Bukomansimbi, districts, Kyagulanyi also raised concerns about the continued crackdown and brutality being meted on his entourage and supporters.

Many members of his campaigning team including journalists were arrested in Kalangala where he had gone for campaigns, only for him to be airlifted to Kampala. However, he says despite the disruptions, he will not abandon the struggle.

“Many members of my team and supporters have been arrested by the security forces and are still being held in custody. I want to let you know that we will not stop. Even if we are arrested and murdered brutally. We will not stop until we fulfill the promise we made to our country.”

Kyagulanyi also also cautioned Ugandans about their safety citing the murder of former boxer and UBF admin Zebra Ssenyange as one of the atrocities the army has been committing.

“It is clear the army murdered Zebra (Ssenyange), and I would like to alert all Ugandans that no one is safe.”

Kyagulanyi has also cautioned the Special Forces Command (SFC) commander Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to stop alluding the forces that he alleges are torturing Ugandans.
