Barcelona and Argentina forward, Lionel Messi has hinted on one day leaving the La Liga side for the United States but is still unsure of where he will go when his contract runs out in June.
Speculation has already started growing with claims that the 33-year-old has handed in a transfer request for the second time and could begin negotiations with overseas clubs in January.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do yet,” Messi said as reported by Spanish television channel La Sexta.
He also confirmed he would wish to return to Barcelona but in a different capacity.
“I’m going to wait until the season ends. I would like to play in the United States and experience life and the league there, but ultimately come back to Barcelona in some capacity.
“Right now, the most important thing is to focus on the team and finish the season well, to focus on trying to win trophies and not get distracted by other things.”
Barcelona are still enduring a tough start to the season (their worst in 33 years) and are fifth in La Liga with only half the wins in 14-games played so far.
Since joining the Catalan club at the age of 13, Messi has gone on to become the club’s record goal scorer, winning 10 La Liga tiles, four Champions League trophies and the Ballon d’Or six times.
