URU to support Premiership clubs ahead of sports return

In preparation for sports to resume, the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has confirmed that they will be providing support to all Rugby Premiership clubs in Uganda.

According to a press release circulated by the URU president Godwin Kayangwe, it is from the Rugby Africa relief fund that the Union will extend personal protective equipment, hand washing facilities, and infrared thermometers and Sanitizers.

“Dear Clubs. Hope you have been keeping well. I know you are aware that we are discussing with the government in regard to SOPs for the resumption of sports due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“URU submitted SOPs as discussed at the Union AGM and these were accepted. We received support from Rugby Africa Covid-19 relief support.”

“We would like to prepare the players and facilities with regard to the SOPs for reopening hence we would like to give support with Personal Protective Equipment (for all club players),  hand washing facilities, Infrared thermometers and sanitizers (for facilities) as we prepare to move towards re-opening.”

“We have now purchased these using the 5,000 Euros funding from Rugby Africa. We have organized a handover of these to you on Thursday 10th September 2020 at Kyadondo Rugby Club at 11 am. Kindly please confirm your availability for the same.”

It’s should be noted that the URU announced the postponement of the Nile Special Stout Rugby Premier league in March this year following a presidential directive to put a lockdown on all sporting activities due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
