The Speaker of Parliament, Hon Anita Among, has remarked that the Opposition, particularly the National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, is merely a group of musicians incapable of toppling President Museveni from his position. While inaugurating savings groups in Sheema District, western Uganda, the Speaker asserted that these musicians lack the political acumen to displace the President.
To emphasize her point, the Bukedea woman MP stated that just because crowds enjoy their music does not imply that these aspiring leaders have the ability to oust President Museveni from office. Among further communicated, seemingly directed at Bobi Wine, that having a Rastafarian identity and being popular in music does not guarantee voter support.
Additionally, she urged the people of Sheema to remain entirely loyal to the NRM, stating that while they can appreciate the music of these politicians, they must not be misled.
“Just because people dance to your music in the streets, you think you have the power to remove President Museveni from office? You think that having a Rastafarian background and popular songs will still earn you political backing. Do not let them mislead you with their tunes. Yes, we can enjoy their music, but they lack a political vision.”
As the 2026 general elections approach, various political factions are preparing to either gain or maintain their authority. All attention will be focused on the upcoming election, as Bobi Wine is certainly expected to challenge Gen Museveni once more.
